With an interior rich with woodwork, built-ins and plasterwork, this early 20th century row house in Bay Ridge has plenty of original details to offer. It’s located a short walk away from the green space of Owl’s Head Park at 6732 Ridge Boulevard.
The brick single-family is one of a row that historic maps and newspaper accounts show was built between 1906 and 1915. The houses have gently bowed fronts, key stoned lintels on the upper stories and bracketed cornices with foliate ornament. This home retains all those details but differs slightly from its neighbors with the glass-enclosed porch framed with Ionic pilasters also seen in a circa 1940 tax photo.

As mentioned, there’s more detail inside, particularly on the first floor, which has a parlor set into the bowed front along with a center stair, formal dining room and kitchen. The parlor boasts the pier mirror along with a picture rail with plaster ornament above. An electric fireplace is a more recent addition.
A doorway ornamented with fretwork leads to the central hallway which is lush with unpainted woodwork, including the original stair and pocket doors to the dining room. That room has an ornate ceiling, built-in china cabinet and a plate rail. The panels below have been filled with a modern wallpaper, and there’s an abundance of wallpaper elsewhere in the house.
The kitchen isn’t pictured in the photos but the floor plan shows that it’s entered through a butler’s pantry that the listing notes is original. A glimpse of a built-in china cabinet in that space can be spotted in one of the photos.
Upstairs are four bedrooms, the largest at the front with three closets and windows in the bowed front. There’s a full bath with bead board, a claw foot tub and a black and white tile floor.
Updates to the house include central air and a new hot water heater.
The house hasn’t been on the market since the 1990s. It’s listed for $1.245 million with John J. Young of Coldwell Banker Reliable. Worth the ask?
