Would You Rent This Bay Ridge Floor-Through With Parquet, Updated Kitchen, Dishwasher for $2,200?
Here’s one of those spacious apartments that would be a good fit for a small family or, at least in theory, shareable.
Here’s one of those spacious apartments that would be a good fit for a small family or, at least in theory, shareable — depending on how much privacy, light and space the roommates are willing to sacrifice.
It’s on the third floor of a three-story, three-unit bow-fronted limestone row house at 533 73rd Street in Bay Ridge. An upside is the combination of well-kept historical detail and a recently updated kitchen tastefully renovated in the going style. One outstanding question is whether the apartment has a front door or part of the hallway is open to the building’s staircase.
An old floor plan from when the house was for sale in 2017 shows a five-room apartment, including an internal “den” and a small side office or bedroom big enough for a twin bed. The apartment has high ceilings, plaster moldings, parquet floors with inlaid borders, and bay windows in the front.
The kitchen has white Shaker-style cabinets, white subway tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances, and floor tile that looks like slate. It has a microwave and dishwasher, although there does not appear to be a washer/dryer in the apartment or building.
The bathroom is updated, according to the listing, although it’s not pictured. There are five closets altogether, including the pantry in the kitchen.

Regarding privacy, the rear bedroom’s only means of egress is French doors separating it from the “den.” The living room appears to be entirely open to the den, though in theory you could put up a curtain and use it as a bedroom, entering and exiting through the door to the hall.
The building, which dates from the early 20th century, has a brownstone base, rounded bay with bands of rusticated stone and floriate decoration, cast iron railings, and an ornate cornice.
The current owner purchased the building in January 2017 for $1.395 million. Shown by Susan Little and Samantha Hawks of Corcoran, the third floor rental is asking $2,200 a month. Is it a good deal?
