Standalone Victorian in Prospect Lefferts Gardens With Mantels, Built-ins Asks $998K
Currently in use as a daycare, the two-family has lots of preserved details, including trim with corner blocks, pocket doors and an ornate staircase.
Here’s a unique late 19th century two-family house in Prospect Lefferts Gardens now in use as a daycare, with colorful painted rooms show for it. Despite that, it has lots of preserved details, such as trim with corner blocks, mantels, built-in china cabinets and pocket doors. The staircase is particularly ornate, with carved newell posts and decorative turned spindles.
Comprising three floors plus a cellar, the 18-foot-wide house at 402 Fenimore Street is a standalone with windows on three sides, including squared-off bay windows facing the street. It’s set up as two nearly identical floor-through apartments, topped by what seems like a fairly large attic above, though it can’t be full height, looking at the building.
The floors throughout appear to be new, and some of the interior doors are replacements. (You can see a few more details and a floor plan in a prior listing.) The bathrooms and kitchens are also updated, though it’s unclear how recently. We see some tan tiles with decorative flower motifs in one shower, white tile walls, and a medicine cabinet and cabinet that look to be in fine shape. In another bathroom, lighter tiles cover the walls and the shower area, but the medicine cabinet needs replacing. The kitchens also have a mixture of old and new cabinets and tiles, none of particularly recent vintage.
In all likelihood, at least cosmetic renovation will be required, possibly more. The house also has a finished cellar with a separate entrance beneath the low stoop, complete with its own bathroom and kitchen (which could pose some challenges for financing).

It’s a wood-frame structure, so the exterior might need a redo, which could be costly, depending on what’s underneath. As well, the area isn’t protected, so there’s always potential for multi-story apartment buildings to sprout up nearby — in fact, a four-story new building is under construction next door — but for now the street looks very sweet.
The listing is from Daniel Gamil and Ruslan Mingazov at RE/MAX Edge, and the house is priced at $998,000. Does it have potential?
