Two-Family Romanesque Brownstone in Bed Stuy With Original Details Asks $2.3 Million
Here’s a looker of a Bed Stuy brownstone that appears to be in good shape and full of original details.
Here’s a looker of a Bed Stuy brownstone that appears to be in good shape and full of original details. It’s at 740 Macon Street in the nabe’s eastern end, a half block from Saratoga Square Park.
The photos aren’t the greatest, but they reveal a load of original detail: parquet floors, wainscoting, tin ceilings, crown moldings, plaster detailing, fretwork, pier and entry mirrors, the original entrance doors and numerous mantels.
Some of the woodwork looks like it could use refinishing, but overall the condition looks quite good — the listing calls the place “pristine.”
It’s a double duplex; beyond that, we’re short on layout details, given the lack of a floor plan. Dimensions are 18 feet by 45 feet, according to PropertyShark. The lower duplex has a metal deck in the rear, with steps down to a garden that’s alleged to be “beautifully landscaped” but is not pictured.

The two kitchens are pictured, and both are updated, with dark-wood cabinetry, composite stone countertops and stainless steel appliances. A single bath is pictured, with a clawfoot tub and a classic black and white tile floor.
The block is a nice one, at least judging by its first-place finish in the “greenest block” contest a few years back. As noted, Saratoga Square Park is nearby, and the Halstead Street subway stop is not far beyond it.
The house, which will be shown at an open house Sunday, is listed by Serena Michelle of No Place Like Home. The ask is $2.3 million, which is not a timid one, but it’s a nice looking house. Like what you see?
