Here’s an interesting one — a 19th century, semi-detached Queen Anne style mansion with an SRO designation, an oversized lot and a split level carriage house in the rear. A three-story with a gabled roof, an Ionic-columned front porch and a brick and brownstone facade, it sits at 669 Saint Marks Avenue in Crown Heights, where it was built in 1891, according to the listing.
The house is being marketed by Jonah Landman, the Brooklyn townhouse maven behind the BK to the Fullest blog and Homecanvaser NY, and a partner in the LLC that bought the house in 2015. Since buying it, they’ve emptied out the property and secured a certificate of non-harassment. They’ve also done a bit of renovating, doing some restoration to the carriage house and upgrading a pair of small kitchens.
A lot of work remains for the next owner, including getting a new certificate of occupancy and deciding exactly what to do with the place.
An architect’s “zoning and code analysis has determined possible scenarios from one to two family mansion to a six-unit rental or condo conversion,” says the listing — which points out that air rights could allow an owner to more than double the square footage by building up, a scenario that wouldn’t thrill preservationists.

As it stands there are over 4,600 square feet in the main house, currently split into four studios, two one-bedrooms and one two-bedroom apartment. And then, of course, there’s the carriage house, which offers another 1,260 square feet.
Original details in the main house include pier mirrors and a carved bench in the entryway, pocket doors, parquet floors, wainscoting and five mantels.
Listed by Steven Szczur of Homecanvasr NY, the property is asking $3.499 million, a steep jump from the $1.5 million it went for two years ago. What would you do with it?
