Located at the Southwestern tip of Brooklyn, Brighton Beach became a destination in the late 19th century as its marshlands and sand dunes were developed into fairgrounds and hotels. In recent decades, it has been widely identified with its entrenched Russian and Ukranian populations. More recently, according to a recent neigborhood profile in the Village Voice, they have been joined by many other immigrant groups, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Mexicans and Pakistanis. And what about its real estate market? Rentals are extremely hard to come by, often requiring an insider connection or a timely stop by the Brighton Neighborhood Association. If you’re looking to buy, single-family homes will run you $350,000 to $450,000 while two- and three-familie houses tend to be in the $500,000 to $800,000 range. Expect to pay anywhere from $300,000 to $500,000 for one- and two-bedroom condos.
