This week, a look back at four of our featured listings from six months ago focuses on homes in Clinton Hill, Kensington, Bed Stuy and Brooklyn Heights. How did they fare?
It’s nothing fancy, but this one-bedroom converted to two is a relatively affordable and spacious option in a desirable part of Brooklyn. It’s part of the Clinton Hill Cooperatives, a practical option for families ever since they were built during World War II to solve a housing shortage for Navy officers and enlisted men. This former Co-op of the Day sold in April for $635,000, which was $5,000 under the asking price.
In Kensington, a spacious one-bedroom from the World War II era has enough nooks and crannies to allow for some work-from-home space — or possibly even a growing family. Located on the fourth floor of 811 Cortelyou Road, the apartment retains the decorative details of its time and has a foyer, breakfast nook, large living room and almost equally sized bedroom. This former Co-op of the Day entered contract in February.
In Bed Stuy, this single-family brownstone offers some original details along with a renovated kitchen and baths. At 967 Greene Avenue, the two-story plus basement Neo-Grec house dates to the 1880s. The exterior has the typical Neo-Grec features of the period, including lintels ornamented with incised details and fluting on the door surround. This former House of the Day entered contract in April.
In Brooklyn Heights, a picturesque stable turned single-family home has undeniable curbside charm. No humble building was designed for the horses that were bedding down here: The brick facade of 2 Grace Court Alley is adorned with a gabled roofline, brick detailing and bold quoining. Any original interior details, like horse stalls, were lost long ago but there is instead a four-bedroom, three-bath home that also has room for one horseless carriage. This former House of the Day sold in April for $5.35 million, which was $400,000 over the asking price.
