Here’s an offbeat property, with four units spread over two separate houses: a brick-fronted Italianate at 50 Prospect Park Southwest in Windsor Terrace and a second house set at the rear of the property, with an enclosed courtyard in between.
Such a setup wasn’t uncommon in the 19th century, when both structures were built (maps from the 1880s show several similar properties on this stretch). But it’s rare to find one still standing.
Both houses are 25 feet wide, but shallow — the front one is square (with a small extension on the bottom floor), the rear one a mere 20 feet deep. Each holds two units, a duplex and a second one-bedroom unit. There’s a long passway that leads through the front property into the courtyard.
Neither is a trove of 19th-century detail, but there are tin ceilings and a decorative marble fireplace in the front structure. Condition looks pretty good overall, though some updating wouldn’t be out of the question.

The front building would be the obvious landing spot for an owner-occupant, who could take the duplex, with its master bedroom overlooking Prospect Park, or take over the whole house and create a triplex.
For that matter, you could live in both spaces. Plenty of possibilities, as outlined on a website with numerous photos.
Listed by Alexander Bilu, the property was a House of the Day back in 2012, when it was asking $1.8 million and does not seem to have sold. Now it wants $2.995 million, more than a 50 percent hike. It’ll be interesting to see what it goes for: what’s your prediction?
