This week, a look back at four of our featured listings from six months ago focuses on homes in Brooklyn Heights, Bay Ridge, Park Slope, and Fort Greene. How did they fare?
A tidy one-bedroom on the penultimate story of a Brooklyn Heights brownstone mixes original details with fun updates, including a minimalist kitchen with white cupboards and a blue counter. It’s located at 21 Monroe Place, an eight-unit co-op in an imposing five-story walkup likely built sometime around the 1870s. The nearly square living room has two big windows with original shutters, a carved white marble mantel, wood floors, and plaster and wood moldings. This former Co-op of the Day is still available for $699,000, a price cut of $30,000.
In Bay Ridge, an early 20th century brick row house with a porch is also full of original features and in need of some attention. There are floors with inlaid borders, coffered ceilings, the original stair, woodwork, built-ins, mosaic tile in the entry, and a mid-century bath with blue fixtures. It’s configured as two nearly identical floor-through apartments, and the lower unit has a deck and small backyard. This former Open House Pick sold in January for $1.225 million, which was $25,000 under the asking price.
It has some fairly lush details on the interior, like plasterwork, mantels and unpainted woodwork, and this 1890s brownstone also has the allure of a location near Prospect Park. At 483 13th Street in the Park Slope Historic District, the two-family is currently used as a grand single-family. The details on the parlor level start with the original stair, finely detailed plasterwork, and a ceiling medallion in the entry. This former House of the Day entered contract in January.
While it is a sliver of a house, this circa 1870s Fort Greene dwelling was given a thoroughly modern makeover to make the narrow spaces work, including inserting translucent steel and glass panels to bring in some light. Brooklyn firm GRT Architects also preserved some original details on the lower floors of the Anglo-Italianate at 128 South Oxford Street, plus added some fun paint colors, wallpapers and ombré effects. This former House of the Day sold in January for $3.24 million, which was $255,000 under the asking price.
