Our picks for open houses on a weekend that promises some spring-like temperatures include three move-in-ready houses and a fourth in estate condition. Found in Park Slope, Greenpoint, Bed Stuy and East Flatbush, they range in price from $899,000 to $3.65 million
Starting off in Park Slope, this circa 1870s Italianate brownstone is replete with marble mantels, moldings and wood floors. The 20-foot-wide two-family dwelling has a one-bedroom garden apartment with an owner’s triplex above. The triplex has a kitchen set into the rear of the parlor floor; a bank of white cabinets is tucked into an alcove and an island separates it from the dining area. There are five bedrooms on the upper floors, all with mantels — and some on the top floor have tin ceilings.
Moving on to Greenpoint, this wood-frame two-family was a House of the Day just last year and now, after a renovation, it is back on the market. It looks like most of the original detail survives, including newel post, moldings, wood floors and marble mantels — although those on the ground floor have been given a coat of black paint. The floor plan was switched up, moving the rental to the garden level and turning the upper three floors into an owner’s triplex. The rear parlor was turned into a kitchen with a large island dominating the room. There are four bedrooms on the floors above, with wood floors either bleached or painted black. The garden floor is set up as studio rental unit with an open plan living room and kitchen.
In Bed Stuy, a Jefferson Avenue bow front row house is in estate condition and the interior is the “perfect blank canvas,” according to the listing. That canvas includes some fine original details like mantels, wainscoting, plasterwork, a pier mirror and wood floors. A two-family, it is configured as a top floor rental above an owner’s duplex. The kitchen on the garden level is spacious but certainly in need of an overhaul. There are two bedrooms on the parlor level along with one full bath accessible via the rear bedroom.
Finally, in East Flatbush this early 20th century brick row house has been in the same family since the 1960s and looks neat as a pin on the interior. A look at the historic tax photo shows the front porch, topped with an ornamented pediment, was enclosed by the late 1930s. Other than the addition of an awning and window gates, the exterior looks much as it does in the photo with its angled bay, cornice and bands of stone trim. Details on the interior include a wood slatted ceiling in the porch, moldings, tin ceilings and newel post. The dining room sports a coffered ceiling, wainscoting and a plate shelf. There are four bedrooms, two large and two petite, and a full bath on the top floor. Another full bath and laundry are in the finished basement.
