In the Prospect Lefferts Gardens Historic District, a bow-fronted brownstone on Midwood Street has a myriad of circa neo-Classical details as well as recent updates. Most of the house’s extensive woodwork is painted white, and there are stained glass windows, a columned mantel, a pier mirror, built-in bookcases and a window seat. The renovated bathrooms have classic black and white schemes, and the minimalist white kitchen (open to the dining room) has stone counters and a backsplash with dramatic veining. Designed by noted architect Benjamin Driesler and built circa 1909, the single-family row house has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a finished cellar, and a backyard with pavers and horizontal fence.

Another bow-fronted house, this one in Crown Heights, is faced in sand colored stone with gray bands and terra-cotta ornament. While not recently updated, it appears in fine repair, with well-kept kitchens, fretwork screens, woodwork and a hall tree. The two-family, which has been in the same family since the 1970s, has a top-floor rental over an owner’s duplex.

In East Flatbush, a quaint Storybook house with a garage sports multi-colored brick, Mediterranean roof tiles, stained glass and a stucco gable with whimsical brick ornament. Completed in 1932, it was designed by architect Samuel Gardstein for builder Empire Homes Inc., the certificate of occupancy shows.
The well-kept interior is also full of vintage features. The living room has a red brick fireplace, parquet, picture frame moldings, stained glass windows and a fanciful wide doorway with columns and rounded and pointed arches. (A similar doorway appeared in a House of the Day in Flatbush earlier this month.)
The parquet, arches and picture-frame moldings continue into the dining room and upstairs. The kitchen is updated and there is a breakfast nook. The semi-detached single-family house has three bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms.
