This 1840s row house in the Cobble Hill Historic District was thoroughly redesigned since it was last on the market, transforming the former four-family into a spacious single-family home with an open plan parlor level, aged oak floors and a sleek new kitchen. The exterior of 479 Henry Street got some attention as well, with an LPC-approved reno.
The designation report dates the three-story brick to circa 1844 when one Jacob Frost began the development of eight houses on the block. The earlier houses in the row, including No. 479, were built by carpenter Richard Whipple with restrained Greek Revival details. An I-card of 1902 shows the house in use as a three-family but by 1913 it had been increased to a four-family. Records show that a certificate of occupancy application for use as a single-family was filed earlier this month.
A pre-renovation listing for the house in 2019 shows the four-family layout as well as a few original details that were still extant. The new floor plan fits in four bedrooms, one of them a full floor suite, 3.5 baths and some home office space.

Designed by Peter Guthrie of DDG Partners, the streamlined parlor floor includes what looks like an original newel post combined with new flooring, a minimalist fireplace, built in storage and, at the rear, a kitchen with smooth wood cabinets and a marble-topped island. The rear wall has been replaced with a wall of glass and doors leading out to a deck.
The garden level offers more living space with a guest room or office at the front and a den with more built-in storage, including another wall of glass, opening to the rear garden. The oak floors continue here while the curved ceilings of the parlor level give way to exposed beams.
Exposed beams pop up again in the top floor suite, which has a vaulted ceiling, a wall of exposed brick, an expansive vanity and a soaking tub. It also has its own outdoor space, an ipe deck running the full width of the house.
Outdoors the paved rear garden is wrapped in horizontal fencing and includes a raised rear portion with planting beds and room for dining.
According to the listing, other upgrades include central air and new mechanicals. Other details can be seen in the virtual tour.
It sold for $3.5 million in 2019 and now, post-renovation, it is on the market for $7.5 million with Ravi Kantha, Matthew Lesser, Gian Mitchell and Cameron LeCates of Leslie J. Garfield. Worth the ask?
