Bay Ridge Prewar With Wood Floors, Closets, Vintage Kitchen Asks $329K
This one-bedroom needs a bit of TLC, but has a spacious layout with a foyer, an eat-in kitchen, and four closets.
Here is a one-bedroom that comes in at under $400,000 and, while it needs a bit of TLC, it has a spacious layout with a foyer, an eat-in kitchen, and four closets. It is on the second floor of 7010 Colonial Road, a six-story brick building in Bay Ridge.
Completed in 1929 and originally known as Sterling Towers, the building has touches of Venetian style with arched windows and brick detailing and twisted columns with Corinthian capitals mixed in with some of the more standard variety. Plans for the building were filed by developers Sterling-Kaye Company in 1928 with the prolific Cohn Brothers behind the design. Under a pointed arch, the building entrance leads to a central courtyard with green space and a walkway towards the baronial-styled lobby. Ads from the year it was completed show rents would have ranged from $48 to $115 dollars a month for units with electric refrigeration and incinerators.
This unit has the practical layout of the period with a living room at one end and the bedroom at the other. Entry is through a small foyer with a walk-in closet.
The generously sized living room has a parquet floor, picture rails, and room for a small dining table in addition to the usual living room setup.
For retro lovers, the kitchen has vintage cabinets including a sink cabinet for the porcelain sink. The lower cabinets, one stripped back to wood and the other enameled, both have porcelain tops. There is a more recent subway tile backsplash. The dark tile floor extends into the windowed dining nook.
The bedroom is large enough for a king-sized bed and has a wood floor, closet, and two windows. A linen closet is in a short hallway leading to the bathroom. The tile on the bathroom walls looks to be a mix of vintage and new subway tiles. Most of the black border tile is still in place along with the matching accessories. The period fixtures include a pedestal sink.
Amenities in the building include a live-in super, a common garden, and a laundry room. Maintenance for this unit is $821 a month.
Wenxiang (Ted) Gu, Myrel Glick, and Martha Ellman of Douglas Elliman have the listing and the apartment is priced at $329,000. What do you think?
