In a striking flats building near the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, this one-bedroom apartment has some fine features, including wood floors, a mantel, and a bay window with window seat and stained glass windows. Those are all contained in a practical layout which also includes a bit of storage space with four closets.

It is located within the Brooklyn Heights Historic District on the fourth floor of 149 Willow Street. Dating to 1889, the five-story brick and stone flats building was designed by J. G. Glover for owner Charles Collins, according to the plan filings. It is an exuberant, eclectic building with two towers of rounded bay windows grounded by a brownstone base. The upper portion of the building is red brick, nicely contrasting with the patina of the copper bays. The original design included entry doors recessed behind a grand arch; they can be seen in the circa 1940 tax photo. While the arch is still in place the doors were replaced during a 1942 renovation with a Colonial Revival door and bull’s eye windows that offer their own quirky charm. The renovation, by Oscar I. Silverstone, also increased the number of units in the building from 10 to the current 20.

Inside the unit is a small foyer (with closet) that opens into the living and dining space. Finishes throughout are white, creating light and bright-appearing rooms. The curved bay has the aforementioned window seat and a simple white mantel has a terra-cotta-colored tile surround.

The windowed kitchen looks in fine repair with white cabinets, countertops, and appliances, including a dishwasher. A new countertop and updated appliances could give the room a bit of a style tweak.

At the other end of the apartment the bedroom is large enough for a king-sized bed and has one window and a closet. The bathroom, outfitted with all-white fixtures, is off a small hallway that includes two more closets.

Amenities in the building include laundry, bike storage, and private storage. Maintenance for this unit is $1,000 a month. The listing notes there is currently an assessment of $51 per month to increase the reserve fund. The building allows pieds-Ă -terre, but does not allow subletting.

Listed with Carrie McCue, Tamara Abir, and Noah Plener of Compass, the apartment is priced at $725,000. Worth the ask?
