In Crown Heights, a 1920s co-op apartment combines a gracious layout with original details and high ceilings.

Designed by architects Berlinger & Kaufmann, 345 Montgomery Street opened as a hotel dubbed The Dearborn in 1929 with a grand entrance with big columns and colorful lobby with terrazzo floor. Now the six-story brown brick elevator building has 102 apartments.

This is one of the bigger ones, with a foyer, living room, formal dining room, and kitchen with a breakfast nook in addition to two bedrooms and one bathroom. Wide doorways and runs of windows on two exposures create a sense of spaciousness and airiness.

The corner unit opens to a spacious paneled foyer with walk-in closet and space for seating and a desk or table. High coved ceilings, picture rails, wood floors, and the paneling run through most of the apartment.

A wide doorway leads to the dining room, living room, and kitchen, with five windows between them. Another wide doorway connects the living room and dining room, which both have parquet. There is space in the living room for bookshelves and a desk or storage.

In the updated kitchen are wood floors, wood cupboards, a stone counter, and white subway tile backsplash. The two bedrooms are good size, one with windows on two exposures.

The nearly all-white updated bathroom has a console sink and white subway wall tile. The unit’s main four rooms have modern ceiling fans. Closets number four, including the walk-in one.

A private storage cage and bike storage are available for a fee, and the building has shared laundry, a courtyard, package room, and live-in super. The maintenance for this unit, a not-inconsiderable $1,740 a month, includes heat, hot water, and electricity.

A monthly $172.50 assessment runs through March 1 of 2027. Listed by Diana Grotheer of Compass, the apartment is asking $750,000. What do you think?
