Light-Filled Victorian Flat With Three Bedrooms, Garage in Park Slope Asks $1.995 Million
In the Park Slope Extension Historic District, this three-bedroom is spacious, with charming original details, and comes with its own garage.
On the second floor of a big brick Queen Anne corner building in the Park Slope Extension Historic District, this three-bedroom is spacious, with charming original details, and comes with its own garage. The 1880s building at 525 10th Street, named Liberty, at one point had a commercial unit on the ground floor, but now the four-story walkup is entirely residential, with four floor-through apartments.
The rooms appear large and airy, with high ceilings and light on three exposures. An old i-card in city records shows the flat’s original eight rooms — including five bedrooms — have been turned into four, but a fair number of details remain. These include white-painted woodwork — notably window surrounds with whimsical toppers — wood floors, and plaster features such as a bracketed arch framing a bay window.
Near the entrance in the rear of the unit, what was once a separate kitchen, dining room, entry, and original bathroom have become one open great room, with a bay window and space for lounging and dining. A compact u-shaped kitchen is open to the room, with a dishwasher, natural quartzite stone counter, subway wall tile, and white cupboards.
The biggest bedroom — formerly the unit’s parlor — overlooks the street, and includes the aforementioned charming shouldered and bracketed arch framing a rectangular windowed bay as well as another large window. An ensuite bath with a window and classic marble hex tile floor plus a walk-in closet have been carved out of a former bedroom.
The other two bedrooms are smaller and perhaps best suited for twin beds, but could both fit a queen. A bathroom off the hall has a chevron tile floor and pedestal sink. Adjacent is a laundry room with washer/dryer and storage space. There are six closets total, plus additional dedicated storage space in the building as well as the aforementioned garage.
A private outdoor space spans half the building’s roof, according to the listing, which does not mention central air. Monthly maintenance is $1,460. Marketed by Compass agents Clare Saliba, Sandra Cordoba, and Lori Mendelis, the apartment is asking $1.995 million. Worth it?
