A top floor one-bedroom with in-unit laundry has the delights of its era and appears to be in move-in condition.
A top floor one-bedroom with in-unit laundry has the delights of its era and appears to be in move-in condition. It’s located at 394 Lincoln Place in Prospect Heights, an early 20th century walkup just a block from the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park.
Originally a rental known as the Monticello, it has four stories and 23 units. The building was completed by January 1917, an old advertisement shows.
The exterior is of brown tapestry brick and creamy limestone with carved neo-Classical details and a glass and ironwork entrance. The elegant lobby has a tweed-like mosaic floor tile, stone wainscot, pilasters and frothy ornamental plasterwork on the ceiling and walls.
Inside, the four-room apartment has parquet with inlaid borders, low wainscoting, picture frame moldings and coved ceilings. The entry is large, with room for a bench, table and storage.
The kitchen is basic but attractive with white painted cupboards, a tile backsplash and room for a table. An update could run a counter around two walls, with room for a dishwasher, washer/dryer and fridge.
The renovated bathroom has a claw foot tub and classic black and white tile on the walls and floor. There are only two closets in the unit but room for more as well as bookcases.
The building has extra storage, shared laundry and a bike room, according to the listing, from Luci Holt of Compass. The maintenance is $811, and the apartment is asking $650,000. Worth it?
