Sunset Park Finnish Co-op With Parquet, Seven Closets Asks $499K
In move-in condition, the two-bedroom has vintage details as well a recently updated eat-in kitchen.
A two-bedroom in a 1920s Finnish co-op sports high ceilings, parquet, and intact details along with a recently updated kitchen and bath. In move-in condition, the walkup is on the 3rd floor of 848 43rd Street, a four-story, 36-unit complex just outside the historic district.
Built by the Advance Homes Association in 1923, it’s just down the block from the first two cooperatives in the neighborhood, Alku and Alku Toinen, which in 1916 pioneered in New York the Finnish model of groups of owners pooling their money to build their own affordable housing. The exterior of No. 848 uses pale yellow brick, with a raised first floor and blind arches above windows.
Inside the unit, the four-room floor plan is flexible; here it’s shown set up as a two-bedroom with a living room and eat-in kitchen. The white-painted rooms appear airy and light in the photos.
The kitchen has wood cabinets, dark stone counters, and square white floor tile but no dishwasher. There is plenty of space for a dining room table. The bathroom is modern with gray floor tile, a wood vanity, and engineered marble wall tile. There is good storage in the unit with seven closets, a recessed niche, and what may be a built-in dish cupboard indicated on the floor plan.
Elsewhere in the building is a dedicated storage space. There is also bike storage and shared laundry. The building is self-managed and has a live-in super. The sublet policy is liberal for a co-op: Subletting is allowed after three years of residency.
Maintenance for this unit is $1,058 a month. Listed by Irine Blyumin and Charlie Pigott of Corcoran, the apartment is asking $499,000. What do you think?
