It has a modest exterior, but this East Flatbush semi-detached house appears move-in ready with a renovated interior and updated mechanicals. There is also a garage and a shared driveway.

The wood-frame dwelling at 3316 Farragut Road is one of two matching sets of semi-detached houses with simple details, including enclosed brick porches and shed dormers. No. 3316 still retains its brick steps to the front door and the dormer seen in the circa 1940 tax photo. A 1922 sales notice for the neighboring twins shows they were completed by May of 1922 by builder Melville A. Schroeter, while a certificate of occupancy shows the pair at 3316 and 3316 were officially signed off on in the fall of 1923.

The 1922 sales blurb refers to one of the houses as “a beautiful new tax-exempt one-family.” The tax-exempt description pops up frequently in Brooklyn house ads between 1921 and 1924, a result of a 1920 ordinance exempting new housing from taxation in an effort to stimulate construction and address a housing shortage after World War I.

This one-family comes in at just 13 feet wide with living, dining, and kitchen on the main level and three bedrooms and a full bath above. A new powder room has been tucked between the kitchen and dining room, and the unfinished basement has a toilet room and laundry.

When the house was last on the market in 2018 the second floor had been renovated, but the main level was untouched. Parquet floors, stair, and a kitchen with a vintage Chambers stove were still in place. There are coved ceilings and original moldings. A recent renovation has refinished the wood floors, left intact a brick mantel in the living room, and put a fresh coat of paint on the stairs.

The kitchen and its adjoining breakfast nook got a new look with bold black and white floor tile, white cabinets, and stainless steel appliances. The petite work space includes a dishwasher.

All three of the bedrooms are shown with ceiling fans, and the largest has two exposures. The one full bath in the house has also been renovated with large gray floor and wall tiles and white fixtures.

Outside, the garage looks like it could use sprucing — perhaps the glimpse provided in the tax photo can provide some inspiration. There is room for a landscape rethink as well; right now the yard comprises a concrete patio and raised bed.

The property last sold for $565,000 in 2018. Listed with Lior Politi of Corcoran, it is priced at $930,000. What do you think?
