Park Slope House for Sale -- 882 Carroll Street

Up for viewing today is a Park Slope limestone on a prime park block, at 882 Carroll Street. There are many a grand home on those park blocks — this one fits the bill and is in pristine condition to boot.

Parlor floor details include a pair of fireplaces, moldings, pocket doors, wainscoting, stained glass, triple bay windows and gleaming parquet floors with inlays. It should be noted that the staircase, per the listing, “has been artfully refashioned to create a voluminous eclectic gestalt.” What that means we couldn’t tell you, but we’re passing it along.

The kitchen, on which no expense was spared, is a looker as well, with Henrybuilt cabinets, a Wolf range and a Sub-Zero fridge. Narrow and enclosed, it’s the opposite of the open-plan numbers favored these days, with no room for sitting, but still, it’s a nice one.

The house offers an owner’s spread that extends to four floors, with an addition holding two bedrooms on the roof level. There are six bedrooms all told: The second and third floors hold two large ones apiece, as well as a laundry room and a lot of closets. There’s a half bath on top and full baths on the second and third floors — no half-bath on the parlor level, though.

The garden floor is set up for a rental, though we’re a little confused by how things work down there. The floor plan shows an eat-in kitchen, bathroom and storage closet that appear to be separated by a solid wall from the “recreation room” in the front, with no bedroom delineated.

Mechanicals are updated, according to the listing, from Annie Rose of Brown Harris Stevens, and the house is zoned for coveted P.S. 321. Plus, as we mentioned, it’s got Prospect Park mere yards away.

By now you’ve assumed that all this is not coming cheap, and you’re not wrong. The price: $4,999,000. Worth it? How do you like the house?

  1. It looks great as a one family house, but it is odd to me that there isn’t a full bath on each floor.

The garden level looks more like the location the family would use for the common areas, kitchen, bathroom and family room. The parlor floor doesn’t seem to have even a half bath. The third floor would be ideal for the parent’s bedroom and a den or study. The laundry room is on the fourth, that might be the best location for the children’s rooms, including the possibility of a playroom, provided they are old enough to have their own floor. If not, they can sleep on the third floor and have the fourth floor as their play area. The fifth floor might be ideal for guest bedrooms.

  2. I like the kitchen. No idea why one would want to stick their eating area downstairs. The house isn’t lacking for space, and it’s nice that it has a formal dining room next to the kitchen, with light and ceilings.

  3. It will make a lovely one family. the garden floor becomes a huge open eat in kitchen family room, the kitchen on the Parlor floor comes out to make a powder room and wet bar and I assume the bathrooms all need re-working etc.
If you like Park Slope, you can’t beet the location etc… it will sell above ask.
