Last night there was an open house for the King Richard Carriage Houses, a Red Hook development comprised of five townhouses that were created by converting a garage on King Street. The townhouses, which range in price from $750,000 for a 1,000-square-foot spread to $1.15 million for a 2,000-square-foot residence, are pitched as follows: “Five exclusive loft style carriage houses encompass modern day living with old world charm. Sixteen foot ceilings and extra large windows allow airy natural light to fill this flowing space.” Click through for an interior pic.

  1. you might hate the finishes (bathrooms, kitchen) but I am really digging the spaces – definitely my kind of interesting layout.

I’m still unsure whether Red Hook should command a premium or a discount for the location?

  2. I love industrial looks and I am one of those “youngish buyers”, but I question if anyone is going to pay 1.1M for a living room with no windows.

It is sad to see a building with such potential getting wasted.

  3. sadly, these hideous houses will probably find more of an audience with youngish buyers than impeccable old brownstones in Park Slope or Brooklyn Heights. As they say in the garment business: “ugly sells”.

  4. ljubitca,

Red Hook inspired On the Waterfront but it was filmed in Hoboken. Great movie, but also Kazan’s self-justification for naming names at the McCarthy hearings.

Alas, this building could’ve been a contender.

  5. what a disappointment. That gorgeous exterior and wonderful doors wasted on a garage. The kitchen is hideous, the bathrroms straight out of Home Desperate and the rest of it is a big meh. It could have been a glorious interior space but the only old world charm i see is a leftover from Soviet Russia.

  6. These condos (or whatever they’re wanting to call them) are across the street from the Red Hook Housing Projects and face a boarded up house and an empty lot that is littered with street trash and even dumped refuse. They face North, and are quite dismal in the morning and afternoon. (I’ve walked thru them on both a beautiful weekend morning and during yesterday’s overcast misty day.) The asking price is insane.
Additionally, I wouldn’t own a dog in this place – the stairs are really quite steep and slippery.
