About

Working from a historic house on the village green in Sharon, Connecticut, a team of designers collaborates to guide each project from schematic design through construction oversight. The eight-person firm is well versed in sustainable building practices and standards—seamlessly combining the latest technologies with traditional building techniques, resulting in buildings that are as beautiful as they are efficient.

Typically focused on traditional residential design, Rafe's twenty-five years of field experience are evident with each project. His knowledge of construction and value engineering is unmatched within the design community, offering his clients absolute representation throughout the process. While guided by the aesthetic awareness of a mature designer, he creates historically influenced buildings that respond to both the surrounding landscape and the specific needs of each client. The firm aspires to create what has become known as the "new old house"—a building offering modern amenities, but with the scale, proportion, and texture of a historic house.

Rafe Churchill's background includes an undergraduate degree in architecture from Bennington College; post-graduate studies in sculpture at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, and a fellowship at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada. Rafe's work is widely recognized in feature articles in American Farmhouse Style, Good Housekeeping's Kitchens & Baths, Country Home, Country Living, New England Home, New Old House, Period Homes, The New York Times, and This Old House.

In addition to numerous publications and various on-line features, the firm has been awarded two Bulfinch Awards by the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art.
