Why Woodstock and Willow, you ask? If you’re asking, then you’ve probably never been. Woodstock’s charms have been widely disseminated throughout the land, but the wee hamlet of Willow, located just outside of Woodstock has charms all its own. The woodsy kind. Not a walkable, artsy, and famous village like Woodstock. Willow is for nature-lovers, looking to hide away. Woodstock and Willow do have one thing in common, though: Both are on an NYC bus route. The Trailways stops in the middle of Woodstock village, and it also picks up here in Willow hamlet. Would we suggest living in Woodstock and Willow without a car? Probably not. But the option to ride instead of drive is nothing to sneeze at for some trying to reduce their car usage. So, this week, we’ve handpicked properties in Woodstock and Willow, all convenient to public transportation.

One of things you give up when you move into Woodstock village is lower taxes, relative to Willow, anyway. Still, we feel there’s promise here as an upstate getaway not only because it’s attractive, but because it’s about a mile outside of the village, and that means it’s close to stuff. Includes a screened-in porch and in-ground pool. Beds: 3. Baths: 2. Square Feet: 1820. Lot Size: .85 acres. Est. Taxes: $8368.

Speaking of being close to things, this hand-crafted cottage is less than a mile from the center of Woodstock village. The backyard is one big park-like piece of land, and the property comes with a rustic barn and detached car port. Inside, there’s space for more sleeping room as well as a separate home office/third bedroom. As charming as this place is, we can’t help feel nervous whenever we see cinder blocks propping up the front porch. Beds: 3. Baths: 1.5. Square Feet: 1752. Lot Size: 1.59 acres. Est. Taxes: $5250.

And finally, we come full circle back to Willow with this 1 bed/1 bath cottage. We like that it’s on the Beaver Kill Creek. We also like that it’s barely visible from the road, it’s sitting on over an acre of land, and that it even comes with its barn and sauna. What we’re not so excited about is that it’s a short sale, which can sometimes be anything other than short when it comes to actually sealing the deal. Then again, that hasn’t stopped us from looking. Beds: 1. Baths: 1. Square Feet: 950. Lot Size: 1.23 acres. Est. Taxes: $3519.
