Hudson Valley Creatives to Be Highlighted in Sixth Kingston Design Connection Showhouse
On hiatus in 2023, the Kingston Design Connection showhouse returns this year with a 19th century dwelling outside of Kingston, in Stone Ridge, N.Y.
An Ulster county property will be transformed by the work of Hudson Valley artists and designers this fall for the return of the Kingston Design Showhouse.
On hiatus last year, the event is hosted by Kingston Design Connection, a network for Hudson Valley area creatives founded by designer Maryline Damour of Damour Drake after she moved from Brooklyn to Kingston.
The house chosen for this year’s transformation is outside of Kingston, in Stone Ridge. The Ulster County hamlet is located roughly 13 miles southwest of Kingston and has a substantial National Register historic district. The Main Street Historic District includes the chosen property at 3714 Main Street. The nomination gives an estimated circa 1840s construction date for the five-bay-wide center-hall house. A stone foundation is still visible, and while vinyl siding covers the exterior, it looks like the entry still has some details intact, including sidelights, a transom, and pilasters.
Photos of the interior show the designers will have an intriguing canvas with which to work. Visible are wide planked floor boards, a period newel post and stair, and a large fireplace complete with bread oven in the kitchen.
This year’s edition continues the organization’s focus on housing and affordability with a partnership with the Ulster County Habitat for Humanity. This spring a newly constructed Habitat home was used for a second annual Habitat House, focused on using goods from the Habitat ReStore and raising awareness and funds for Habitat home construction. The two organizations also launched a home improvement series, with speakers covering topics from gardening to heating and cooling your home.
The 2024 showhouse in the historic Stone Ridge house will be open to the public from October 11 to 27. Designers interested in participating can submit applications until July 31.
