You’ve come a long way since last fall, 396 Dean Street. The facade of the house between 4th and 5th avenues is now sporting a combination of tile and brick, some mini balconies, and a triangular roof. In short, it’s tough to wrap the noggin ’round all these details, so some close-ups are after the jump.

  1. I take back what I wrote above. I walked past this house on my way home today. The construction fence is down, and the ground floor totally kills it.

    Thumbs down.

  2. This place would really rock if they painted the whole facade the same shade of purple as the house next store. Or maybe that green color on the fence to provide maximum contrast.

  3. Amzi has it exactly right. Kudos to the builders for trying to do something beautiful and not cheaping out.

Unfortunately, they ended up with 3/4 of a copy of a late 19th-century Romanesque Revival design and 1/4 of a Hasidic-Fedders-modern design.

    How does this happen?
