Thanks to a tipster, we’ve got this breaking shot of the new signage that just went up on the side of 218 Myrtle Avenue, the first of (hopefully) four buildings that John Catsimatidis’ Red Apple group plans to build on this block. From the sign, we learn the name of the rental project: The Andrea. The website is just a landing page with a form to express early interest, so no pricing information yet.

  1. Have the people complaining about this building ever been to this corner? Other than the Church noted above, it’s nothing but projects and buildings that look like projects (i.e. bare-bone brick buildings in a tower-in-the-park mode). This looks much nicer than anything in the immediate area, helps build back the otherwise non-existent street wall, and will have a much needed supermarket on the ground floor. Context people, please.

  2. The building is a snooze, but in the background are the twin round towers of a church, catholic I think, which was all that survived of the urban renewal along the north side of the Park. It is a beautiful church. Looks like it was transported from the Rhine Valley.
Montrosse, if you ever do a column on churches, you should include this one. it is very unusual and I don’t know how much longer it will be with us.
