While Building 92, the former Marine Commandant’s residence along Flushing Avenue, continues to be restored and converted, the modern portion of the future Historical Center at the Brooklyn Navy Yard began to fall into place yesterday. (You can see a rendering of what the whole thing will look like on the jump.) The new building is composed of modular pieces that have been assembled at Navy Yard-based Capsys, part of a local sourcing effort to achieve LEED Platinum status. This video, shot from Flushing Avenue, shows one of the pieces being lowered into place, and we saw footage of the other components being stored on site at the Navy Yard as well. Very cool. As The Observer reports this morning, Building 92 is scheduled to open around Labor Day.
