We’ve been covering 185 Ocean Avenue for almost four years; the site was originally a turn-of-the-century brick house torn down to build an eight-story, 22-unit building. Last time we looked at it, we worried it had been hit by the ugly stick. The photo above shows how it’s turned out so far. Since this development has had plenty of hold-ups, who knows when it’ll be complete.

  1. “Did anyone even see the run down piece of crap house that was torn down to build this? It was a WRECK.”

You be trippin’ Mr. Granola. That was a very sweet house in decent shape – rennovated bathrooms, kitchen etc.

  2. The knee jerk “anything new is ugly” adopted by this blog and many of its commentators is just plain annoying. That’s not to say the building is free from issues. Did anyone even see the run down piece of crap house that was torn down to build this? It was a WRECK. There are plenty of gems in PLG. Calm down!

  3. bfarwell, are you familiar with the building on the left? You can’t tell much about it from the teeny portion of it that is showing this photo. On the interior, the apartments are large, some still with detail. On the exterior, it’s one of the more nicely-kept, fairly handsome co-op buildings on this side of the park.

  4. I get it! Fear of Glass!

As much as I want to dislike it, I can’t help but feel excited for the people who move in. What an amazing location. Who do you suppose it will be? How much will they cost? Folks with kids will be stoked – two playgrounds right across the street.Papa and Sons better stock up on Windex.

Such a shame they can’t tear down the whole row of houses and build more of these! But some NIMBY types created the Ocean on the Park historic district, meaning we’ll have to look at those gorgeous limestone homes for the rest of our lives. Sheesh! The nerve!!
