There’s been steady progress at 137 5th Avenue, with all five stories up and a bunch of windows in. To refresh, the bottom portion will be retail topped by four floor-through apartments. An old rendering is here; we’re getting pretty anxious to see how this facade will turn out.

  1. Did you even click on the rendering, ninethreesix?

There is no concrete at the base, it is all glass.

Why do people comment without even looking at renderings?

  2. Have no problem with some variety of styles on 5th, but don’t like this at all, at least based on the pictures. Asymmetrical facades can be perfectly fine in some cases, but in this one, and so many ‘modern’ designs, it ends up resulting in less window area overall, and thus several big areas of plain, blank concrete facing the street – a vibrant corner of 5th ave, no less. Seems like a waste of space to me.

  3. If it turns out like the rendering, I love it.

5th Avenue is not Prospect Park West, nor is it even 7th Avenue. It’s a hodgepodge and this one looks like a winner to me.

  4. UGH, I think it is totally out of contex with the neighborhood. Maybe some where else, but not here. I am not crazy about crazy windows that are not symetrical, just looks like one big mess to me.

I have seen it in person, and thumbs down for me……as usual………

    I like regular tenements better.
