Yesterday Brooklyn Based ran an interview with restaurateur Ted Mann—of Williamsburg’s Cubana Social and Greenpoint’s No Name Bar, among others—in which Mann said he’s “building out a beer garden on 19th Street and Seventh Avenue that he’s hoping to have open by July.” There have been rumors on Brooklynian about an eating and drinking establishment moving into the big lot at 555 7th Avenue, at 19th Street, where a permit for a one-story extension and renovation for an eating and drinking establishment was approved last September. If this is the location where Mann intends to put the beer garden, he’s thinking big, according to Brooklyn Based: “The as-of-yet unnamed spot will be able to seat 700-800 in the 10,000 square-foot outdoor garden alone, and another 100-150 in the 3,000-square-foot interior.” A Greenwood Heights resident heard from a contractor the beer garden is indeed planned but doubted it would be open when the nearby school is in session. The plans haven’t gone through the community yet so we’ll see how it plays out.

  1. Before they built the Prospect Expressway in 1945-1954 the area was known as Windsor Terrace. The neighborhood was divided up along Church Parish lines.

Robert Mosses removed 1252 families from the nabe…

  2. Hey Denton, where are you going to park your boat now?

Used to buy gas from that station back in the day until the EPA shut them down for leaking tanks…

The site is as perfect as you will find if you are worried about complaints. Between the Prospect Expressway and Green-Wood, next to manufacturing/commercial properties can’t think of anyone who might complain.

Not worried about the school issue. Remember the kerfuffle over Provini opening across from PS107? Not a word since they opened.

Hey PS10 administrators… Might be a good place to hold parent/teacher conferences, what do you think?

  3. oh please Action –
jesus – my husband was born here – he and all his friends have called up into the 20’s Park Slope – b/c it wasn’t yet SUNSET PARK!
Greenwood Hts was made up by Realtors!
I’ll agree that this whole area was just South Brooklyn to really old timers

“Great spot for that highway cop who sits on the entrance ramp to the PPE to pick off a few drunks on the way home!”

HA! or drunk truck drivers heading up 20th St. And certainly the neighbors in Green-Wood won’t be giving the beer hall any issues.

the 20’s have NEVER been considered park Slope. Now you are sounding like a realitor…The name has historical significance going back to the 1700’s “Heights of Greenwood” “Heights of Gowanus” “Greenwood” and to the old school locals “south Brooklyn”

    But who really cares?

  6. “@denton, agreed, better than those old bays, but just not understanding the biz model to the location other than “if we build, they will come…and drink!””

AJ, this nabe is more and more becoming a destination.

Great spot for that highway cop who sits on the entrance ramp to the PPE to pick off a few drunks on the way home!
