Dave, I’m so glad you’ve taken to Oshima. They really are great and underrated in my opinion.
Do you still go to Yamato as well?
DH is right, pork belly at Prime Meats is better than Thistle Hill. But Thistle Hill’s is better than The Vanderbilt. Another place I really love…but just not their pork belly.
If folks would like to try an old-time bowling alley, I recommend Maple Lanes on 17th Ave and 60th Street in Borough Park (which is one block from the 18th Ave subway stop of the “N” train). This place is legend among us old-timers.
Kens;
Shell Lanes. Believe it or not, I’ve only been there once a long time ago, so I can’t say much about it.
oh, and it’s a celebration of all things “non-kosher” so pork and shellfish heavy.
I spent a good amount of my youth in Maple Lanes.
Benson, how about the one on Avenue X and McDonald?

Chef spent time at Eleven Madison Park and Le Bernardin. Haven’t been yet but the menu looks great and douchey yelpers seem to love it.

DIBS – Thistle Hill Tavern – but if you want Pork Belly, stick to Prime Meats. Amazing.
OK…I got it…Thistle Hill. I pass it all the time on my way to PS.
11217….I think they’re getting to know is quite well at Oshima…excellent meal last week with LOTS of extras.
“Damn. You’d think one guy would have made a stupid, unintentional mistake by now and blown the match. This could go on for days!”
Right! That’s usually what happens, someone gets tired and blows it, and it’s game over. This is fascinating.
