  1. When I lived in California, I would guess that Wal-mart was my number 3 store for groceries and supplies, behind (non-union) Trader Joe’s and (union) Costco, with the (union) Safeway supermarket being a close fourth.

The newer walmart stores are not too bad – much better than any k-mart I have ever been in.

  2. I actually hate Walmarts and won’t shop there. it’s all about how crowded they are and annoying to me personally.

I think Walmarts are great. They move into an area and hire LOTS of people and they provide food and goods at cheaper prices.

  3. Ah, ok. I just recall there being a long drawn out battle over ownership as one party claimed they were the true owner and the person who sold it had no right to do so. Allegedly that was the reason no work had been done on the property and why it couldn’t be rented or sold.

  4. snaps — I wasn’t following the court dealings on that property. I know people who rented apartments in that bldg 25+ years ago. They complained then that the owner was crazy and heat was a problem.

  5. My brother-in-law reportedly hates Walmart (my sister has told me) and I thought it had something to do with the usual reasons of displacing Mom and Pops or labor practices or something like that….I finally asked him and he told me that they don’t pay their advertising bills until he is about to take them to court. (BIL is publisher).

  6. Slopey, wrt that building where the thread was scrubbed, is the lawsuit regarding true ownership over and done with? I thought that was still milling about in the courts.
