We can’t figure out what Boymelgreen was doing spending his time with the small-potatoes action of a townhouse development in the first place. We wish he hadn’t though. Other than the nice-sized windows and light (which may not last longer than you can say “Bruce Ratner”), this is one of those designs that, while certainly a step up from Fedders, makes you wonder what the architect was thinking. The mix of materials and exterior decorative touches are the most troubling. The generic kitchens don’t help much either. There was an open house on Sunday. Anyone check it out?

  1. Why do the same people who bemoan the mallification of America on the (legitimate) grounds that everything ends up looking the the same, jump up and down demanding that new construction perfectly ‘match’ its surroundings.

  2. I am so confused. why not copy your neighbors house? It is taller. Nice front doors, Holy crap spend some money on nice doors. NYC home of CULTURE!!! All this bad design makes me believe in Seaside Florida and gated communities.

  3. unbelievable. what does the new building offer that the old ones to each side don’t? If I were a developer what would be so hard about simply copying the neighbors? At least it would be easier to sell.

  4. The floors are too close in color range not to match the cabinets. Either make them match or make them contrast,
but don’t pick two “wood” colors that are close but no cigar.

And the whole building looks like the incredible shrinking house.

  5. This is a complete abortion! Living nearby, I grew more and more horrified as the building approached completion. Now that it’s done I’m just dumbfounded. What were they thinking to not even try to match the height of the adjacent houses? And the stone work, windows, double stoop. It’s all so ghastly. The location is a helluva problem but they must have decided that wasn’t enough of a challenge so they designed a house so ugly it’ll be almost impossible to sell.

  6. This is literally across the street from AY. If you don’t think they’re going to have trouble selling this, check out the four-story brownstone a couple doors down that may now be in contract, I don’t know, but had been reduced numerous times and whose listing had Corcoran practically begging someone to buy it.
