How annoying were these two letters in the Times a few days ago? The whole schtick about needing to have lived in Brooklyn your whole life to feel attached to it or have an opinion about it is getting really old! Clearly we’re not the only ones who feel that way. Reader feedback here.

  1. “Biff – I’d rather take the bar fight meatheads in salty dog than the flannel shirt wearing dweebs at bklyn social….oh well!”

I thought you said you moved to Bay Ridge primarily because it’s cheaper, but maybe I misheard you.

  2. sjtmd – born on Eastern Parkway? It must have been cool at the time you lived there. Good you are returning to Brooklyn.

“those who have yet to discover the “Brooklyn” in themselves”

Discover your inner Brooklyn? Very interesting!

  3. You’re right only time will tell.
Actually, I don’t know how I got on the aspect of talent. This thread didn’t come from there, but look at it as a source of pride thing. That ties into my thought about what makes Brooklyn something to be proud of.

There are other things from BK’s past to be proud of besides talent; the navy yard’s contribution to WWII is the first thing to come to mind.

Something I didn’t mention before: Why is it that when newcomers complain about old timers they never acknowledge the fact that yes they do consider themselves cooler for being Brooklyn and yes it’s cooler because of you old timers who made Brooklyn into a place I could go to and instantly seem cooler to myself and my friends back home. No body brags about living on the upper west side.

  4. Hal Lefkowitz (1962); inventor. Invented The Clapper (“Clap On! Clap Off!”)

The guy who invented the claps is not from Brooklyn, but the Orginal Gun Clappers (Boot Camp Clique) are from Brooklyn!
