House of the Day: 102 Gates Avenue
The parlor and entry of this renovated Clinton Hill townhouse look amazing, as does the bathroom. We love the tile floor, green claw foot tub, sink, lighting — everything, really. We featured 102 Gates Avenue as a House of the Day when it was for sale pre-renovation in 2013 (and attracted 350 people to the open house) and wrote about it again as it was under construction. It was also an Open House Pick last week.
We really wish there were more than two interior shots on the listing. Has anyone see it in person? Is the rest of the renovation as good as the rooms pictured?
The property last sold to developer Austen Colgate LLC for $1,555,000 in 2013 (it was unrenovated). Now the ask is $3,350,000.

And here, for perspective, is what less than 2 million will buy you outside of Brooklyn, in an actual affluent community commutable to New York. You could say that I am comparing apples to kumquats–and you’d be right… but it’s still worth keeping in perspective. Don’t get me wrong, I love Gates Ave. We lived around the corner from this place for six years–but if I had to choose between a place where I could have peacocks on a lawn, or a place with no lawn–I’d get something in the clinton hill coops as a pied a terre and a weekend mansion instead.

I’m happy for everyone I know who owns around there… and I’m sad for them too, because 3 million dollar homes make crappy, crappy neighbors.
I’m guessing they spent at most $1m on the reno and they paid $1.55m for the house. This feels overpriced by about $500k.

it’s almost as if location has something to do with real estate – i’m baffled by this concept!
