The conversion of the castle-like trio of buildings on Classon and Quincy by the Pratt Area Community Council has taken a big leap forward in the past couple of weeks with the addition of some windows. If you consider how the place looked back in February, things are really moving along!

  1. All I know about 99 Gates is that the seller lives in North Carolina and is selling the house his mother left him when she died about two years ago.

I had a chance to meet him a while back when he came to look at the house. He said his mother paid $15K including closing cost when she bought it way back when.

The house needs allot of work, but it is in a great location and has very friendly neighbors. He was asking about $1M two years ago when he was considering selling it himself. Not sure what it is listed for now.

  2. Which house on Washington Ave? Also anyone know what is going on with 99 Gates Ave? The house has a for sale sign in front of it but noone answered when I rang bell. Lost number to realtor and haven’t passed back around to get it.

  3. Wow. Goes to show you that rebuilding and reuse is possible and much superior to tearing down and building bland econoboxes. Kudos to PACC for keeping the character of the block intact while providing needed affordable housing.

I wish they could have saved the house on Wash. Ave, but all in all, I have to give them much credit for this and other reclaimation projects.
