I think the point is that there is an old frame on each side. This not only dwarfs these houses but sticks way out in front of them. You can have new construction of a larger scale than the surrounding houses and be of different style and have it still be far more contextual than this appears to be from the photo. Maintaining existing lines helps a lot.

There’s out of context… then there’s creating a new context. I have to say, when I see a little house stuck in between big buildings (like the one on Beverley Road next to that new “luxury condo” building that isn’t selling) — I find them all the more adorable. The big buildings actually make the little one look better!
There’s a place for hypercontextual… but there’s a lot of charm in the anachronistic and mismatched. Give it a chance, B.
sometimes (often actually) I think you use this out-of-context tag bit to freely. In this case, it is a compliment to the new bldg.
