In honor of 150 4th Avenue reaching its full height of 12 stories last week, here’s a reminder of where it’s been and where it’s going. The site, which is between Douglass and Butler, used to be home to a row of old tenement buildings that were demolished a couple of years ago. In their place is an Ismael Leyva-designed building that will eventually have 95 units.

Well, regardless of what they were, some people did call them home.
I don’t care, I still liked them
Oh come on, those old tenements were collapsing shells, and were architecturally unremarkable to begin with.
I enjoy forgetten-ny too, but I don’t think we need to don’t need to preserve every dingy scrap of the past.
I miss those old tenements. I like the look of them. I am glad however the 2 end ones did not sell out, but I have to wonder why??
The new building is ug…..
There is always a ghost of what was once when, like my favorite website in the whole entire world forgotten-ny

If memory serves, those buildings were demolished over two years as go, and then the site sat vacant for quit a while.

How long is it ‘supposed’ to take to demo and build new bldg like this? (and where does one come up with such a time frame?).
I would not miss almost any block on 4th avenue and glad to see redeveloped….with this being one of the exceptions.
It was complete and uniform and would have been nice if kept the old exteriors.

Keep on smokin!
Wow, that looks better (in drawings, at least) than most of the crappy high rises on 4th.
I miss the row of old tenement buildings.
🙁
Link is great!!! Thanks
Interesting to see those buildings were always crap.
