We’ve been tracking the renovation of the former Bueno space with interest, all the while assuming it would remain a restaurant space. If the Brooklyn Paper’s reporting is correct, though, that’s not the case: Sources tell the Rupert Murdoch-owned weekly that the cursed location is in fact slated to be a stationery store. If you’re skeptical, you’re not alone. “Seriously, a stationary [sic] store? There’s no way, said Marc Elliot, chef of nearby restaurant Ceol. You’ve got Rite Aid and Duane Reade nearby, and both of them will sell the same products cheaper. Update: According to a commenter, “I believe it’s going to be a Paper Source – it’s a semi-national chain, nearest stores now in DC and Boston.”

  1. Actually, no, I can’t stand Kate’s Paperie and never find anything particularly inspiring at Papyrus either.

I like Cursive New York (outposts in Grand Central and ABC Carpet). They have some really unusual, charming cards that have proved perfect for one person or another. I also fell in love with a homemade metallic leather guest book — except what use is a guest book even if you are getting married? — soaps, games for children, and lacquer boxes.

  2. “i mean i aint jealous and all that i can’t snag a husband who will rent a store for me”

Call Dolly Levi! *rob*’s shopping for a husband! I didn’t know you were back on the market, *rob*?! (And, yes, I assume I get a GOTD for the Dolly Levi reference.)

  3. I heard from one of the construction guys there it was going to be a bar. I’m not so sure the Brooklyn Papers unidentified source with “sketchy details” should be taken too seriously, but you never know.

  4. I don’t know that a stationery store is so far fetched. If it’s anything like Lion in the Sun on 7th Avenue, they will probably do quite well.

  5. There’s also that cool little gift shop just one block up on Smith, called something Exit I think?, that has a great selection of cards (although I think not really other paper/stationery). And you know, I just remembered that a fancy card/stationery shop just opened up on Court St. a few blocks from here. So hardly a shortage in this neighborhood. A Staples-type place would be *much* more useful here (to me and the many other home-office types in the hood)…

  6. LOL Mopar, as if anyone cares what is on the card.. it’s about what is IN the card if you know what i mean. are you talking about that rip off store in soho kates paperie and the other rip off store across the street from it?
